Award for Distinguished Affiliated Professor TUM for architects
Technical University of Munich appointed Albert Speer as Honorary Professor
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has awarded Prof. Albert Speer as TUM Distinguished Affiliated Professor. Alumnus of the TUM is among the most important city planners and architects. The honorary title gives the TU Munich to internationally renowned scientists and scholars belonging to the top in their field.

Albert Speer (77) studied for a carpentry apprenticeship architecture at the Technical University Munich, Munich Technical University today. From 1972 to 1997 he taught at the University of Kaiserslautern City and Regional Planning.
At ETH Zurich he had held a visiting professorship. In 1964 he started his own business as a city planner and architect in Frankfurt. Today, the office, Albert Speer & Partner (AS & P) more than 120 employees.
His major projects include the master plans for several new cities in China, for the EXPO 2000 in Hanover and the football World Cup 2022 in Qatar. He designed, among other things, the diplomats in the Saudi city of Riyadh and plans for the city of Nigeria’s capital Abuja.
In Germany, he developed the master plan for the city of Cologne and the memorandum “Frankfurt for all” as a strategic urban development study with the objective horizon 2030th Albert Speer has directed his activities from the beginning internationally. 2007 AS & P founded a subsidiary in Shanghai. Die Technische Universität München (TUM) hat Prof. Albert Speer als TUM Distinguished Affiliated Professor ausgezeichnet. Der Alumnus der TUM zählt zu den bedeutendsten Stadtplanern und Architekten der Gegenwart. Den Ehrentitel verleiht die TU München an international renommierte Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler, die zur Spitze in ihrem Fachgebiet gehören.
Albert Speer (77) studierte nach einer Schreinerlehre Architektur an der Technischen Hochschule München, der heutigen TU München. Von 1972 bis 1997 lehrte er an der Universität Kaiserslautern Stadt- und Regionalplanung. An der ETH Zürich hatte er eine Gastprofessur inne. 1964 machte er sich als Stadtplaner und Architekt in Frankfurt selbstständig. Heute beschäftigt das Büro Albert Speer & Partner (AS&P) mehr als 120 Mitarbeiter.
Zu seinen bedeutendsten Projekten zählen die Masterpläne für mehrere neue Städte in China, für die EXPO 2000 in Hannover und die Fußballweltmeisterschaft 2022 in Katar. Er entwarf unter anderem die Diplomatenstadt im saudi-arabischen Riad und Planungen für die Innenstadt der nigerianischen Hauptstadt Abuja. In Deutschland entwickelte er den Masterplan für die Innenstadt von Köln und die Denkschrift „Frankfurt für alle“ als strategische Stadtentwicklungsstudie mit dem Zielhorizont 2030.
Albert Speer hat sein Wirken von Beginn an international ausgerichtet. 2007 gründete AS&P eine Tochtergesellschaft in Shanghai. Um die Wissenschaft hat sich Speer nicht zuletzt durch die Gründung der Professor Albert Speer Stiftung verdient gemacht, die den akademischen Nachwuchs im Bereich Architektur und Planung fördert.

In the selection procedure for taking part in the ‘North Bund’ international ideas competition in Shanghai Gensler, USA, Cox, Australia and AS&P, Germany were the companies that prevailed.
AS&P emerged as the ultimate winner of the competition.
FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar

World Cup Stadiums Qatar
For the Qatar 2022 stadium concept three existing stadiums will be expanded and nine new stadiums will be built with capacities reaching from approximately 45,000 seats for the group matches to more than 85,000 seats for the finals. All stadiums will provide optimal conditions for players, match officials, spectators and media representatives as they are equipped with an ultramodern eco-friendly cooling technology providing excellent outdoor comfort.

This region will in future be one of the most important focuses of development along the middle section of the Yellow River. The area covered by the master plan constitutes a corridor for development that runs between both cities and parallel to the Yellow River, and is sized some 37 x 50 km.
