The task was to address a number of challenges posed by the cinema foyer’s architectural framework in the shopping centre Bruuns Galleri. On the one hand, we were dealing with a very smooth space that is an elongated flow corridor without any actual ‘places’ or points of interest. On the other hand, the foyer is located on two separate levels and there weren’t any spatial relations or sense of coherence between them.
The challenge of missing ‘places’ is met by introducing a series of illuminated cylinders, which appear as a forest of warm lights in the dark of the cinema surroundings. These lights have different functions and thus different diameters, ranging from a few centimetres for atmospheric lighting to huge accessible and space-defining cylinders. The cylinders pierce through the horizontal division of the floor structure, hanging down as ceiling lights on the lower level and rising as tables on the upper floor.
Area: 1,320 sqm
