In the 1,500-meter-high ski paradise of Verbier, Switzerland, Marianne Tiegen Interiors transformed Chalet 1936.

Previously a hotel converted into a private home for a large family who moved from London to the mountains. Spread over 1,000 square meters, the house comprises several entertainment areas — such as a cinema and a gym — eight ensuite bedrooms and an indoor pool.

Old alpine barn-wood-clad walls and mineral-limestone paint adorn the various spaces, where brown and cream tones prevail.

French pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries, industrial and midcentury American and European furniture, alpine and reclaimed objects — such as a Parisian gutter turned into a lamp — as well as bespoke upholstery reflect the vast array of styles and eras that we used for a one-of-a-kind result that feels like a little oasis in the mountains.

Marianne Tiegen Interiors drew our inspiration from the homeowner’s cosmopolitan lifestyle and the surroundings to design a home with a sense of French elegance and romance combined with a minimalist spirit of living in nature and accents of English extravagance. Chic yet comfortable, curated yet welcoming, this home is a mix-and-match where contemplation of the mesmerizing panorama becomes part of daily life.
