Skatepark Stožice Ljubljana Building News
Sports Park Stožice, designed by SADAR+VUGA and completed already in 2010, comprises a multi-purpose sports hall and a football stadium. Through years of observation of its usage, a potential to re-use and repurpose specific areas for alternative purposes, was identified. These adaptations aim to generate new possibilities for redefining the sports grounds over time.

With the initiative coming from Skatepark Rog community and Javni Zavod Šport Ljubljana, operated by The City of Ljubljana, this marks the first adaptive re-use project in the Sports Park Stožice, uncovering alternative possibilities for generating new programs and activities in the city.

The New Skatepark Stožice utilizes the previously unused parking garage beneath the eastern stands of the football stadium. The central-eastern entrance to the stadium is used as the main entry, while the skate park is accessible directly from the garage as well.

The Center features two halls. The northern hall, spanning 600 m2, recreates street environment with curbs and stairs, while the southern hall, covering 425 m2, is designed for fluid movement and includes banks, decks, and a skating bowl. In the middle, the two halls are connected by a social space on the mezzanine level, offering panoramic views of the action on both sides.

The main structure consists of a solid shell with the two-story mezzanine in the middle, nested within the existing structure. The dynamic skate landscape is constructed using drywall wooden elements, allowing for easy transformation and adjustments in the future.

The surfaces of the perimeter walls are complemented by abstract artistic interventions, alluding to the iconography of the skateboarding subculture. The project is revealing another side of SADAR+VUGA, as it represents one of their first projects in which wood plays a prominent role in the design.
