SCOTTISH DESIGNERS MAKE THEIR MARK
Carnyx Group Information
Scotland’s hottest design talent was honoured on Friday night (24th May), as 500 of the country’s top designers gathered at the Holiday Inn, Glasgow City West to hear the results of this year’s Scottish Design Awards.
The Scottish Design Awards cover the entire design spectrum – from brochure and new media to architectural design. Thirty-six companies were in the running for one of this year’s coveted SDA trophies, making it the largest event of its type to take place north of the Border.
In total, 35 awards were handed out on the night. In the design section, the Grand Prix was awarded to newon.eh6 for Career Development, while the Chairman’s Award went to Pentagram Design for Canongate Books. Scotland’s Designer of the Year was named as Graham Walker from newton.eh6, while the title Young Designer of the Year went to Gail Finlayson from 999.
In the architecture section, the Museum of Scottish Country Life by Page and Park Architects was awarded the Grand Prix, while Dance Base by Malcolm Fraser Architects was awarded the Chairman’s Award. Malcolm Fraser of Malcolm Fraser Architects was named Scottish Architect of the Year, while the eagerly awaited title Young Scottish Architect of the Year went to Adrian Stewart of Chris Stewart Architects.
Gordon Young, director of the Carnyx Group, the awards organiser, said: “This year’s Scottish Design Awards reinforce Scotland’s reputation as a hot bed of design talent. Good design adds value, and more and more Scottish clients now recognise this.”
