“From the location. Arriving in Cinfães, there are still 12 km to go. As we approach the site, we see a village – Tendais, a unique landscape, where time seems to want nothing to do with this place. From the site, facing West, once again, a silent and grandiose landscape. In the foreground, the mountains protect the time to get there. of deployment.
The single-family dwelling occupies a long, narrow rectangle, separated from the rest of the land by a stone wall. The volume is simple and discreet, given the direct surroundings. A rectangle measuring 62.5mx 7.5m, oriented North-South, defines a predominantly horizontal volume.
Monolith, designed with pure geometry, presents an opening directly related to the outside, only in the social space, framing and enjoying the landscape. From luminosity. The hallway modeled and paced by natural lighting marks the route that leads to the rooms. The first moment corresponds to the living room and the social space where a huge opening frames the landscape.
In search of light, the second moment corresponds to the rooms facing south, with a double space, a rest space and a patio. Finally, the last moment corresponds to the second rest and/or work room, facing North and illuminated by the reflection of light on the wall of the patio that surrounds it. Of materiality. The materials are simple… Mostly plastered and painted, the single-family house uses slate and ceramic tiles. Dominated by white, it is revealed by light…”

The inhabited thickness
“Fernando Mendes Pinheiro signs a house that inhabits a wall capable of housing the architecture it contains. A purified wall, regulating and stabilizing the landscape of the place of Quinhão in Tendais, Cinfães. Then, a white, neutral mass appears, parallel to the horizontals that dominate the slope, namely, to the terraces that shape the dimensions of the landscape, capable of integrating, highlighting and, simultaneously, denouncing the carved and angled profiles of the existing constructions. The topography is highlighted by a generally blind East elevation and a West elevation clearly informed and interested in the horizon.
The house promotes the slope with a tranquility and sincerity important to the cultural and natural place. Exposed, it appears illuminated and projected onto the field that descends the slope. A permeable and affable wall, unfolded and dilated, with an inhabited thickness.”
