The new research building achieves a new ethos of “interdisciplinary working” where the exchange of ideas is promoted in a large collective and connective environment. The new £49m 12,000 sqm facility deliberately challenges public perceptions of the secretive nature of research.

The facilitation of collaborative working was a key theme which has permeated this building design. Replacing an existing building that was no longer fit for purpose, the vision was to simplify circulation through and around the site and encourage interaction and communication between research groups, both within the OMPI building itself and across the cluster of buildings.

The Middle East Centre also had 3 workrooms in the same property. To tie in with the St. Antony’s College future plans the Middle East Centre is planning a new Library and Archive to meet the current use for research and academic activities.
Oxford Science Park Offices

In 1990 this architecture practice were commissioned to design a small, flexible research office building – Northbrook House – at Oxford Science Park, a joint venture development by the Prudential and Magdalen College.
University of Oxford Earth Sciences Building

The new building contains the Earth Sciences Department of nearly 400 students and staff. It includes teaching rooms, laboratories and administration offices.
University of Oxford, Mathematical Institute

Along with the master plan for the new Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, New York’s Rafael Viñoly Architects was hired to design the Mathematical Institute. The new building consolidates a department that was previously spread across multiple locations in the city. It provides a new focus and identity which balances researchers’ privacy needs with interdisciplinary collaboration.
