Famous Manhattan Street
Wall Street in New York City is one of the most historically and architecturally significant streets in the world, lined with landmark buildings that reflect the evolution of finance, power, and urban design. Rather than a single style, it’s a dense mix of neoclassical, Beaux-Arts, Art Deco, and modern skyscrapers.
One of the most iconic buildings is the New York Stock Exchange Building. Completed in 1903 and designed by George B. Post, it features a monumental neoclassical façade with grand Corinthian columns and a sculptural pediment, symbolizing stability and economic power.
Nearby is Federal Hall, a neoclassical structure where George Washington was inaugurated in 1789. Its Greek Revival design, with a domed rotunda and columned portico, reflects early American ideals tied to democracy and governance.
Another major landmark is 40 Wall Street, also known as the Trump Building. Completed in 1930 and designed by H. Craig Severance, it is a classic Art Deco skyscraper, once briefly the tallest building in the world, with a distinctive tiered crown.
Just a short distance away stands One Wall Street, designed by Ralph Walker. Completed in 1931, it is known for its sleek limestone façade and the famous “Red Room” interior, a richly colored mosaic banking hall.
At the southern end is 55 Wall Street, originally the Merchants’ Exchange (1830s). Designed by Isaiah Rogers, it features a massive granite colonnade and later became the headquarters of the National City Bank.
Modern additions also shape the area. 28 Liberty Street (formerly Chase Manhattan Plaza), designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM Architects), introduced International Style modernism with its glass curtain wall and open plaza.
