Ilyinka 3/8 Hotel Moscow – Russia Accommodation Building

Ilyinka 3/8 is a hotel complex located in the historic centre of Moscow, just a short distance from the Kremlin. The project is based on the reconstruction of the site’s historic structure and the creation of a new ensemble that continues the spatial logic of the surrounding urban fabric.

A defining architectural element of the project is the arch. It appears throughout the complex and establishes continuity between the new buildings.

The proportions and scale of the arches, together with a subtle local entasis — a slight narrowing of the volumes toward the top — refer to the architecture of old boyar chambers and give the new buildings a measured historical resonance without turning them into literal replicas.

The symbolic motif of the complex is drawn from mythological animals of Ancient Rus. At the main entrance, the image of a griffin is carved into the surface, giving the project a distinct emblem and reinforcing its connection to historical narrative and place.

Limestone is used as the principal finishing material for the new buildings. Its tactile quality gives the architecture visual density and physical presence, while also linking the ensemble to the material traditions of central Moscow. The façades are restrained, with the emphasis placed on proportion, relief, and the depth of openings.

Two buildings adjoining the historic structures are designed with pitched roofs, helping them relate more closely to the scale and silhouette of the older context. Two freestanding volumes are finished with stepped upper levels, opening toward the best views and giving the composition a more articulated skyline.

The project is conceived as a contemporary intervention rooted in the memory of the site. Its architectural language is built from continuity, material presence, and the careful reinterpretation of historical urban form.
