Redevelopment of the building that hosts New Publicis Group offices in Milan, managed by D2U
Milan, July 28th, 2016 – A location that provides serenity, creativity and wellness: these are the strengths of the new Publicis Group Headquarter in Milan. The building was recently redeveloped by the italian architectural firm D2U – Design to Users.
The architect Jacopo della Fontana D2U founding partner together with Corrado Caruso, was in charge of the development and execution of the project with the goal of turning an abandoned property into a new generation office building.
“Turning a sad, empty property into an inviting, creative campus presented a huge challenge” says Jacopo della Fontana “overcome thanks to the vision and determination of everyone involved.”
This vision gave birth to a workplace able to provide a shot of energy and inspire people: a work location in which people spend most of their time and don’t want to leave.
“Our work is all about creating, producing and selling ideas.” explains Giorgio Brenna Leo Burnett Group Italy President “This is why we wanted a work location able to provide a shot of energy and inspire our people, our creatives, creating the ideal conditions for them to develop the finest ideas.”
The new office concept had a positive response among those who visit the Campus on a daily basis, as reflected in the words of Daniela Canegallo, MSLGROUP Italy CEO, who says “Sometimes the form is substance: it is the case of our new campus. A space that allowed us to work differently, breaking down the silos and facilitating a free flow of ideas and a very interesting contamination of different ideas”.
Also José M. Vuolo, Leo Burnett Head of Design, recognise the value of the new facilities as well as the opportunities offered by the new spaces: “This job has always been based on an inseparable unit: The Art Director and Copywriter “creative couple”. For this reason, when I first saw the project of an openspace, I flinched. Actually, since we are here, nobody ever worried about it, as we’ve always found the solutions, adapting naturally to the opportunities offered by the new workplace”.
Inside the lot there’s a huge private courtyard, measuring 5.000 m2, particularly unusual for such a city as Milan. This space inspired client, architect and property consultant to conceive the transformation of the building into a new facility able to host a Creative Hub of the kind necessary to bring together the various Publicis group brands.
The facades of the building have been worked on to give them a more interesting and contemporary appearance thanks to the screen-printed, coloured films which create a highly colourful, dynamic effect when seen from the outside. The outdoor space has turned into a garden with café tables and a basketball court, offering the opportunity of taking a walk, attending informal meetings among the large magnolias or simply turning attention for a moment to the fruit trees or vegetable garden.
In addition to the three main agencies of the Group (Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, Publicis and MSL), the 11.500 m2 office space of the building also hosts other companies, adding up to a total of about 10 brands. To keep the various brand image separate, three different entrances had to be identified, each one with pleanty of visibility from the outside and with its own distinctive appearance on the inside. Most of the ground floor is given over to areas serving all the agencies: we can find here the lounge-bar-restaurant, a big theatre that seats about 100 people, numerous meeting rooms and a crèche. On the lower floor there’s a fully equipped gym while on the large terrace there is room for further informal meetings.
The layout of the workspaces on the upper floors has been organized with a common approach marked by several style variants. Overall, the spaces are organized in such a way as to facilitate socialisation and creative interaction, while guaranteeing privacy and allowing each company in the Group to maintain its own distinctive image.
Among the partners that made the “Creative Campus” possible, we thank the general contractor Mangiavacchi Pedercini and we quote: Arper, Arteco, Avery Danninson Italia, B&B Italia, Brama, Caimi, Cardex, Castellotti, Dieffebi, Emmegi, Falegnameria F.lli Casali, Grandimpianti Ali, Greenwood & Woodn, HW Style, Interface, Laminam, Regent, Sitland, Servizi Tecnologici Bergamo, Tagliabue Sistemi, Trilux, Universal Selecta.
