Telefónica Flagship Store, Spain

Studio Banana and Design Bridge and Partners redesigned the Telefónica flagship store located at Gran Via 28, one of Europe’s most important commercial streets. The new space, called “Espacio Movistar,” offers an innovative, user-centered experience that humanizes technology while enhancing the global company’s brand strategy. The project transforms a 2,500-square-metre area inside the iconic skyscraper designed in 1930 by Ignacio de Cárdenas, a renowned architectural gem of the early 20th century.

Following a strict and respectful restoration process, the new two-floor space preserves the building’s cultural heritage while creating a versatile, future-proof environment that reflects the brand’s evolution and vision.

A new retail vision

Espacio Movistar promotes exploration and connectivity through a seamless physical and digital experience. The space offers a blend of retail, entertainment, and culture, successfully reviving the flagship store while preserving the legacy of Gran Via, one of Europe’s busiest commercial arteries. The design fosters openness and connection with the city, redefining the communication hub at kilometre zero. It aims to surprise visitors and build a sense of community, creating memorable brand activations.

Alternative content experiences

The ground floor features a large central atrium designed to host events and live TV broadcasts. There is also a retail area that reimagines the shopping experience by integrating interactive technological solutions. An immersive cube along the historic façade provides a striking visual experience. On the first floor, focused on entertainment, visitors can enjoy content creation pods, gaming areas, a cinema, and dining options. A direct connection to the Telefónica Foundation museum is also available.

Matías Rodríguez, Managing Director of Studio Banana, remarked, “Bringing Telefónica’s vision to life and turning their clients, users, and visitors into true protagonists of the experiences offered at its iconic flagship store has been the real challenge we addressed.”
