The German Gymnasium

The German Gymnasium is a new restaurant located between King’s Cross and St Pancras stations. It was originally built in 1865 and was England’s first purpose-built gymnasium for the German Gymnastics Society; and which hosted London’s first National Olympian Games in 1866.
Initially restored by Allies and Morrison, Conran and Partners made the necessary interventions for a hospitality venue, including an all-day Grand Café, a first floor restaurant, two bars and an outdoor terrace.

One Pancras Square by David Chipperfield
Fully let Grade A island office building with an area of 55,120 sq ft net over 8 floors. The key feature are the dary grey iron twisted columns, regularly set out along the building’s facades.
“The quality of architecture reflects the important position of this building at the gateway of the development. The iron twisted columns reflect the Victorian heritage of the site. The building is approximately 55,120 sq ft net over 8 floors. A typical floor is 7,050 sq ft net with 600 sq ft of south facing balconies. Shops and cafes will be housed at street level. A through-reception can be accessed either from the main entrance on Pancras Square or from King’s Boulevard. Goods and services for this building are delivered below street level via a shared access route. The target completion date is Q4, 2013.
As with all the office buildings at King’s Cross, the very latest technology reduces running costs for occupiers and minimizes environmental impact. The building is rated BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and is linked to the site-wide district heating network. This network provides close to 100% of the development’s heating and hot water needs. The building is designed with both active chilled beams and opening windows so that it can be ventilated mechanically or naturally. Carbon emissions will be substantially lower than required.”

“The Lighterman pub, dining room and bar, is the brand new addition to the restaurant and bar scene at King’s Cross….The beautiful contemporary building is designed by Stanton Williams Architects and spans the eastern side of Granary Square. The interiors are sleek and industrial, with large open spaces, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and exposed concrete. The Lighterman is named after the workers who operated “lighters”, the flat-bottomed barges that were a common sight on London’s waterways in the 18th Century.”

About Kings Cross Central
King’s Cross Central is one of the most significant development and regeneration opportunities in central London.
