Johan explores the appropriation by American Federal Buildings of established Grecian architectural forms and tropes. This, it was felt by the founding fathers, added a certain democratic and libertarian emphasis to the buildings and the institutions housed within.
Johan uses the tactic of anamorphosis to reconstruct these American icons as a series of rotational and condensed architectural figures that are then reused to create other formal and programmatic interventions which in themselves fuse the public and the private; making the point that in the modern world the old dichotomy between public and private is much more strained that it used to be.
