Foster and Partners has been sidelined on the £500m Ruskin Square scheme in East Croydon one year after winning outline planning for the 186,000m² city centre regeneration project, reported the Architects Journal in 18th July 2012.
Developers Stanhope and Schroders confirmed it intended to brief four, unnamed architects to investigate fresh proposals for a speculative office building on the south London site.

Fosters had been widely expected to design around 93,000m² of pre-let office space around the 3.7 hectare plot having already secured approval for the scheme’s masterplan from Croydon Council in July last year.
The scheme features 550 Allford Hall Monaghan Morris-designed homes.
In a statement, the developers said: ‘Foster + Partners had conceived a very flexible masterplan which had the ability to be delivered by different practices reflecting a variety of architectural styles.
‘This move therefore is the first step forward in realising this vision.’
Croydon Council chief executive Jon Rouse described the decision
