Tim Foster Architects receive Planning Permission for a new Arts Council funded Carnival Arts Centre in West London
Planning Permission has just been granted by the City of Westminster for Carnival Village in West London. The £4m Arts Council funded project will provide a new home for the Carnival Village Trust as well as the Association of British Calypsonians, Ebony Steel Band and Yaa Asantewaa.
This community art centre dedicated to the promotion of Carnival Arts and business will replace the current premises occupied by Yaa Asantewaa on the site of an old factory and will accommodate workshops, teaching rooms, rehearsal and performance facilities, exhibition spaces, an Internet Café, a bar, kitchen and administrative offices.
The building utilises a narrow triangular site between two residential streets. Only one elevation will be visible and this combines Cor-Ten cladding and large glazed areas opening onto a central community and performance space. The centre will incorporate rainwater harvesting, a bio-diversity roof, swift boxes and large triple-glazed roof-lights with solar shading to maximise internal daylight levels whilst limiting solar gain.
