London-based architectural practice Remi C.T. Studio has revealed Ash Mews, an intimate residential development in Stratford, East London. The project transforms constrained backland plots into a thoughtfully crafted mews street, a contemporary reinterpretation of the East End’s architectural heritage.

At its core, Ash Mews embodies the belief that quality design can elevate overlooked urban spaces, turning them into celebrated, livable environments. The project balances the refinement of individual dwellings with the character of the wider city, creating a cohesive and human-scaled street.

Situated behind Victorian terraces, the site was realised through collaboration between multiple landowners, unlocking the potential of underused land to form a unified mews. The plan brings together seven bespoke homes five with three bedrooms and two with two bedrooms each maximising light, volume, and privacy while contributing to a vibrant shared streetscape.

Every element of the development from corten steel lighting columns and sculptural planters to bespoke finishes has been carefully considered. Private terraces, courtyards, and framed views connect interiors to the street and sky, while generous ceiling heights and fluid layouts create open, adaptable spaces. Detailed studies of daylight and sightlines ensure neighbouring homes are respected, turning the site’s irregular geometry into opportunities for openness and quiet retreat.

Ash Mews is as much about its public realm as its private dwellings. The crafted streetscape, warm materials, and soft landscaping foster a sense of discovery and belonging, creating a street that connects not just buildings, but people.

“The external corridor was a wonderful opportunity to curate & celebrate the spaces in between the often overlooked corners of East London where thoughtful design can continue to bring new life to the urban fabric,” says Remi C.T. Studio, founder of Remi C.T. Studio “It’s a small project with a big idea: that every corner of the city deserves to be considered, cared for, and beautifully made.”
