In order to promote biodiversity and raise awareness for Hong Kong’s culturally significant and protected Fung Shui woodlands, 53 of the tree species utilized will be native species.

Swire Properties Unveils Vision and New Designs for Taikoo Place Redevelopment Project

Swire Properties today unveiled exciting plans for its Taikoo Place redevelopment project, a HK$15 billion investment which will see the developer further transform its Quarry Bay home into a major business and commercial hub in the city. The developer has announced its collaboration with international architects and design firms including Hugh Dutton Associés, Gustafson Porter and Wong & Ouyang (HK) Ltd.

Taikoo Place Building

As part of the redevelopment, the two new leading-edge triple Grade-A office towers, along with the existing eight office towers in Taikoo Place, will be linked by elevated air-conditioned walkways and surrounded by landscaped gardens with cascading water features and additional alfresco dining areas.

“Taikoo Place is already home to a significant number of multinational corporations, and with our ongoing investments, we aspire to build an open and vibrant mixed-use community here which will reshape the city’s office landscape,” said Don Taylor, Director of Office at Swire Properties. “The redevelopment will not only elevate Taikoo Place’s status as a world-class commercial hub, but will provide an attractive alternative to Central,” he continued.

Taikoo Place landscape design

As one of Swire Properties’ most important investments in over a decade, a key highlight is the addition of two triple Grade-A office towers, each spanning a total GFA of 1 million sq ft. The first, “One Taikoo Place”, is expected to be completed in 2018, followed by the second building, ‘Two Taikoo Place’, in 2021. Both office towers will be built to the highest standards of sustainability, targeting LEED Platinum ratings. All floors of “One Taikoo Place” are designed with large 3-metre wide curtain wall window panels, offering panoramic views of Victoria Harbour.

Another outstanding feature is the introduction of “Taikoo Square” and “Taikoo Garden”, designed by award-winning London-based landscape architectural practice Gustafson Porter (famed for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park). The two gardens, comprising a collection of lush greenery, will provide 69,000 sq ft of open space – equivalent in size to Statue Square in Central – for the enjoyment of the community.

The extensive green open space is a rare feature in high-density Hong Kong commercial areas and will form part of the larger fabric of Taikoo Place with their stunning water features, quiet pathways and trees and foliage native to the region. “Via Fiori”, the popular landscaped area facing One Island East, will be renamed “Taikoo Park” and will continue to host vibrant outdoor events, offering entertainment for the community as it does now.

In addition, Paris-based design company Hugh Dutton Associés has been commissioned to design an elevated walkway system that will seamlessly connect the buildings in Taikoo Place, offering easy connectivity for the office community and the public. Hugh Dutton also designed the groundbreaking CLIMATE RIBBON ™, a design centerpiece and environmental management system for the company’s landmark mixed-use development Brickell City Centre, set to open in Miami, Florida at the end of this year.

Taikoo Place Hong Kong development plan

Supporting these new, unique features will be the continued infusion of dining and retail concepts in the district, including a wide range of cafes and restaurants around Taikoo Place and Cityplaza.

“With our ongoing investment in Taikoo Place, we are well-positioned to meet the continued growth of the office sector and the changing needs of progressive companies looking for quality office and superior supporting amenities for the benefit of their employees,” said Don Taylor.
