TFP Farrells Celebrates Topping Out Ceremony of “KINGKEY 100”
China’s Newest Landmark Tower
TFP Farrells will celebrate the “Topping Out” of the Kingkey 100 on Saturday, April 23rd. Farrells was commissioned to design the 441.8-meter tower after winning an international design competition. Located in the city’s prime district of Luohu, the Tower will be Shenzhen’s tallest tower as well as one of the world’s tallest mixed-use buildings. Upon completion in late 2011, Kingkey 100 will be introduced to the world as an urban metropolis that will redefine Shenzhen.

The 100-storey tower comprising over 210,000m2 of accommodation is part of the master plan design for a 417,000m2 mixed-use development. The development includes 5 residential buildings and 2 commercial buildings. The main tower is linked to a retail podium that connects directly to a new metro station.
The floors of the tower are divided into three major functions. The floors from level 4 to 72 will house 173,000m2 of Grade-A office space, 7 levels of trading floors are evenly distributed throughout the main body of the office portion. The uppermost levels from 75 to 100 will be occupied by a 35,000m2 6-star Luxury Hotel and will include approximately 250 rooms including 25 executive suites, restaurants, fitness club, and state-of-the-art business centre and support facilities.
A variety of fine-dining options are contained within the crowning sky lobby on the top 3 floors. Rational and efficient planning principles combined with the gently curved profile result in a desirable variety in the plan form at each floor.
The external expression of the development embodies and emphasizes the identity, stability and stature of the Kingkey Group and combines a modern technologically advanced building form. The tower’s elegant shape is married with a rational and pragmatic foot-print.
This allows for the highest level of efficiencies and offers optimized operation of its components. Its orientation maximized open park and city views. The cladding is a sophisticated environmental skin which allows the tower to maintain an optimum interior environment whilst minimizing potential solar heat gain. The modular approach of the system ensures a cost effective solution.
It is believed that the design and development of the Kingkey 100 in Luohu’s business district will form a key urban landmark of exceptional architectural quality befitting Shenzhen’s key role in China’s economic and cultural development.
