Describing Architecture is an annual exhibition exploring architectural representation and its role in designing and creating built space.

This year, the theme for the exhibition is ‘Work in Process’. We are asking participants to consider the process involved in commissioning, designing, constructing, inhabiting, adapting and interpreting built space. At the core of the theme is the idea that every building is a work in process.

Submissions:

Submissions are invited in any medium or scale. The exhibition provides a platform for innovative and creative pieces of work across a wide range of media – drawing, photography, model, film and audio – and from a broad spectrum of practitioners. We are interested to see work that is in the process of being made, different iterations of the same project or idea, or work that explores or reflects upon built space. Due to the scale of the space, there are also opportunities to support the inclusion of large format work.

First Stage: Online Submission

Email your work for selection to: contact(at)describingarchitecture.com
Include:

– Title, medium and size
– A brief written description
– 1-3 jpg images of work (Images of work in progress can also be submitted)

Submission Deadline:

WEDNESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER at 6pm

The site for the exhibition this year is the Octagonal Room of the City Assembly House on South William Street, Dublin, courtesy of the Irish Georgian Society. The exhibition will run from 3-12 October 2013.

The exhibition is organised and curated by Antóin Doyle and Alice Clancy, with support from the Arts Council (Engaging with Architecture Scheme 2013), the Irish Georgian Society, and the Architectural Association of Ireland.
