The Chicago Architecture Biennial (CAB) Announces Public Programming for the 2017 Edition

August 22, 2017 – The Chicago Architecture Biennial (CAB) announced today the public programming for the 2017 edition, to include performances, talks, forums and film screenings. The programming, will take place throughout the duration of the Biennial, which runs September 16, 2017 through January 7, 2018, with Preview Days taking place on September 14 and 15, 2017, will include performances, talks, forums and film screenings.

The Chicago Architecture Biennial’s public programming features series including: Tuesday Evening Talks, CAB Pillars, Films with Chicago International Film Festival, Forums at Randolph Square, CAB Sessions, Pin-Up Space, CAB Connectors, and CAB Special Project Programs. Highlight events within these series include a conversation among different contributors to the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize on September 16 at S.R. Crown Hall at the Illinois Institute of Technology; a sound performance by multidisciplinary artist Mark Fell on September 29 at the Chicago Cultural Center; a conversation between art historian Hannah Higgins and artist Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle on October 3 at the Chicago Cultural Center; a discussion between the Museum of Modern Art Associate Curator Yasmil Raymond and artist Tomás Saraceno on October 5 at the Chicago Cultural Center; a conversation between architect Cesar Pelli and Art Gensler on November 2 at the Wintrust Arena; a lecture by Pritzker Prize winner Tadao Ando on December 11 at the Art Institute of Chicago; and a screening of the film Jens Jensen: The Living Green, which explores the work of landscape architect Jens Jensen, on October 5 at the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, and more.

Chicago Architecture Biennial Public Programming Series

Tuesday Evening Talks
Offered every Tuesday evening, these lectures and discussions feature architects, designers, journalists, academics, and Chicago Architecture Biennial participants on the cutting edge of architecture.

CAB Pillars
This collection of high-profile lectures and discussions features participants from the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial. These programs take place at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Preston Bradley Hall, as well as Chicago’s top institutions.

Films with Chicago International Film Festival
This selection of international narrative features, documentaries and short films showcases new works about celebrated architects as well as chronicles of ordinary people and characters interacting with extraordinary places.

Forums at Randolph Square
Set in the uniquely designed indoor amphitheater designed by Mexico City participant Frida Escobedo, these forums will engage the public in architecture-themed conversations with the public.

CAB Sessions
These extended events feature panels and long-format discussions with architectural professionals, field practitioners, and academics.

Pin-Up Space
The Garland Room at the Chicago Cultural Center will host a space for rotating pin-up exhibitions. Changing throughout the run of the Biennial, this space will showcase temporary exhibitions and displays by design practitioners, local and national schools of architecture, and other creative teams.

CAB Connectors
Through additional support from the Field Foundation, the Chicago Architecture Biennial will aid in the development of ongoing projects in the built environment that improve communities throughout Chicago and advance social needs. These projects celebrate the spirit of grassroots programming and innovation, and set the stage for Biennial civic legacies.

CAB Special Project Programs
As part of its reach throughout Chicago, the Biennial will host a series of programs that connect the local neighborhood to national and international practitioners.
