West Coast Modern Lists Mountaintop Hideaway House for Sale on B.C.’s Mayne Island
The Measured Architecture-designed home is perched atop one of the highest points on the island, featuring stunning ocean views and surrounded by 53 acres of private forest
West Coast Modern is announcing today that they have listed the Measured Architecture-designed Hideaway House for sale. Located atop one of the highest points on B.C.’s Mayne Island, the 2,829-square-foot home is surrounded by 52.7 acres of private woodland that is included with the home.
“The Hideaway House is one of the few properties that combines architecture, privacy and breathtaking views all in one,” says Trent Rodney, Co-Founder at West Coast Modern. “This is a rare opportunity to own an entire mountaintop getaway.”
Built in the “free architecture” style that sees nature and design collaborate, the Hideaway House is made up of interlocking wooden volumes clad in black-stained red cedar with native boulders and outcrops being incorporated into its design. The home’s strategic placement between
two sandstone ridges allows for spectacular Gulf Island views from every room in the house. Originally constructed in 1993, the home was given a significant update in 2011 by Clinton Cuddington of Measured Architecture.
“Accessed by a private road, surrounded by forest and far from the nearest neighbour, the Hideaway House offers a high degree of privacy,” continues Rodney. “This fits well with the trend we are seeing today of clients seeking out secluded homes in stunning locations that marry architecture with privacy.”
The private forest surrounding the home contains a mix of oak, arbutus and cedar trees – including some that are over 500 years old – as well as a network of trails that make it possible to go hiking without ever leaving the property.
Part of B.C.’s Gulf Islands, Mayne Island is 90 minutes away by ferry and 20 minutes away by float plane from Vancouver. The island is served by a variety of grocery stores, farmers markets and restaurants.
Visitors can enjoy the abundant wildlife, which includes deer, ravens and eagles, with peace of mind knowing that there are no bears, wolves or cougars on the island. Prospective buyers are invited to attend scheduled tours conducted on a weekly basis for the month of June. Link to reserve tours available at https://www.westcoastmodern.ca/properties/hideawayhouse
