Les Franqueses del Vallés – New Barcelona House
From environmental preexistences and the sunshine consideration the house is built as a view point of the landscape, well orientated to the environment and protected to prevent the unwished sights from the street.
From the acces, the view is dominated by a wall of limestone that locks the court. The same body of the house protects the back garden from unwished sights looking itself like a locked box. On the other hand, the view of the building from the swimmingpool show us a house absolutely opened with a clear transparency to the end of the inside court.
When we get closer to the house from the entrance, the paved surface gets reduced and the grass begins to win a predominant place until bushes and grass become an extension of the natural environment, losing themselves meaningfully the edges of the house domain and the natural field. The garden has been restoked with native Mediterranean trees and bushes in order to break the edge line between the natural and humanized issues.
The house organizes itself around a court, a court that facing the back to the road gathers the light and the natural sunshine, organizing all the rooms of the house around it with a living room as a main place totally opened to the landscape at the north face and to the court at the south face.
The front glazed side of the court acts as a space of circulation and connection of all the rooms (as the program of the house determine), making a dilution between the outside and the inside of the house. The court is the main part of the house, present on the usual life and having the flexibility to adapt to the different uses you can imagine, opening or closing the court with the intention of communicate with the outside landscape or getting it as an outside private space of the house.
The house has been covered with a white limestone in order to reach the outside perception of an inmaterial box. The pavement of the roof cover is also white.
The interior of the building is austere, getting the principal signification the pavement of natural oak paved surface that honours the all oak that still remains alive in the garden and the light coming from the inside court that gets into the rooms of the house without any obstacle.
