HP Gas booking channels: first-time ujjwala subscriber

HP Gas offers six booking channels. A new Ujjwala subscriber in a small town needs none of them explained to them, they need the right one picked for their situation. Here is how to choose and what the Rs. 300 subsidy covers.

1.6 crore. That is how many new LPG connections were issued under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana between 2023-24 and 2025-26. The FY 2025-26 target was achieved in July. Millions of these connections went to women in small towns and semi-urban areas where the chulha was still the primary cooking method. For every household that received one, a first cylinder was also delivered free. So was the stove. The connection itself cost them nothing.

What nobody delivered with the cylinder was a booking guide. The second cylinder is when the question arrives: how do I actually order the refill?

For LPG and hp gas booking, Bajaj Pay, the Bharat Connect payments platform on Bajaj Finance, shows the exact booking amount before you confirm, through UPI, cards, or net banking.

Why Ujjwala 2.0 Reached Small Towns Specifically

LPG coverage in India stood at 62% in April 2016. Near saturation by 2024. That eight-year journey filled coverage gaps in rural areas first, then in small towns where partial coverage existed. By the time Ujjwala 2.0’s 1.6 crore connections were being issued, the urban market was already served. The new connections were going to precisely the places that had been left out – semi-urban pockets, district headquarters, smaller tehsil towns where a cylinder was visible but unaffordable before the scheme.

India’s domestic LPG customer base reached 32.97 crore on April 1, 2025, up from 14.52 crore on April 1, 2014. The growth is structural, not incremental. Schemes like PMUY built the base from scratch in areas that had never had it.

The Booking Process a First-Time HP Gas Subscriber Faces

A new Ujjwala subscriber receives an HP Gas new connection issued through HPCL. The consumer number assigned at connection is the key to every future transaction.

HP Gas offers six booking channels. Each reaches a different type of user.

ChannelHow It WorksBest For

The WhatsApp booking is the fastest route for new subscribers in small towns. No app download. No portal registration. A single message from the registered mobile number confirms the gas booking and triggers an SMS with the booking number and expected delivery date.

What the Subsidy Does and Does Not Cover

Every Ujjwala 2.0 subscriber qualifies for a subsidy of Rs. 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 9 refills per year in FY 2025-26. The subsidy does not reduce the price at delivery. Full market price is paid when the cylinder arrives. The Rs. 300 credit reaches the Aadhaar-linked bank account within a few working days of the delivery being confirmed in the system.

Biometric e-KYC was mandatory by March 31, 2026 for continuing to receive these benefits. Subscribers who have not completed e-KYC should contact their HP Gas distributor or visit the PMUY portal immediately to avoid a break in subsidy credits.

The subsidy amount and terms are set by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and are subject to annual revision.

Book Your HP Gas Cylinder on Bajaj Finance

For subscribers who want to complete the HP gas booking and payment in one digital step, Bajaj Finance connects to HP Gas’s billing system and confirms the current booking amount before any payment is made.

Steps to book and pay for your HP Gas cylinder:

  1. Open the Bajaj Finance app or visit the website and log in
  2. Go to Bills and Recharges and select Gas Booking
  3. Select HP Gas as your provider
  4. Enter your LPG consumer number and confirm your booking details
  5. Review the booking amount before confirming
  6. Choose a payment method such as UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking and complete the transaction for an instant Bharat Connect receipt

For households using Indane or Bharat Gas, the same gas booking flow on Bajaj Finance covers all three major LPG providers.

10.55 crore PMUY connections have been released since 2016. 1.6 crore of them came in the last three years. Each one marks a household switching from firewood or cow dung to a gas stove, and encountering the booking process for the first time. The WhatsApp channel, the missed call option, and the IVRS line all exist precisely for this population. Clean cooking fuel arrived in small towns through a government scheme. The next cylinder arrives through a booking. Both are now within reach.
