The main house design is classic International Style with a white stucco exterior and flat roofs. One precedent influencing the design was obviously the clients’ requirement that it reflect the style of the existing house. Another was the Italian Renaissance villa tradition with its origins in Roman times of the pleasure house, usually part of a garden, and having no practical purpose other than the giving of pleasure.

Austin Patterson Disston Architects is a full‑service, award‑winning architectural and planning firm with offices in Southport, Connecticut and Quogue, New York. Founded in 1982 by partners David Austin, AIA and McKee Patterson, AIA, the practice is now led by Senior Principal Stuart Disston, AIA, LEED GA and Principal Joshua Rosensweig, Associate AIA.

Architecture Practice Overview:

The firm specializes in bespoke architecture, with a strong focus on residential, hospitality, and private club projects.
It also undertakes renovations, restorations, additions, and new construction, tailoring design solutions to the unique character of each site and client needs.
Their design philosophy respects both the built and natural context of each project, combining precedent‑informed understanding with fresh and inventive architectural ideas.

Design Style & Approach:

The firm’s work spans multiple styles — from traditional and classical influences to thoughtful contemporary design — and is known for its intimate scale, careful material detailing, and interior‑focused spatial quality. Larger residences are designed to feel welcoming and not imposing, with interiors that are well‑crafted and cohesive.

Notable Work & Recognition:

Projects by Austin Patterson Disston Architects include a broad range of residences and estates in Connecticut, the Hamptons, and elsewhere in the Northeast. Examples include:

– “Small Gem in the Fields”, a Shingle Style residence set on former Connecticut farmland with bold presence and beautifully organized interior spaces.

– Waterfront and country homes in Greenwich, Westport, and Darien, Connecticut, blending classic architectural language with contemporary living needs.

The firm has received numerous awards and recognitions for design excellence, including Innovation in Design Awards and honors from the American Institute of Architects Connecticut (AIA/CT) and various regional design publications.
