Lastly, the Spanish architect Joaquin Perez-Goicoechea, co-founder and partner of the firm, was Highly Commended for Principal of the Year.
AGi architects was founded six years ago through the partnership of Joaquin Perez-Goicoechea, Nasser Abulhasan and Salvador Cejudo.
“It is a pleasure for the entire team and myself to receive recognition in the Middle East market, from which we have been professionally active since the establishment of the firm in 2006,” states Perez-Goicoechea.
International and Arabic recognition
AGi architects have accomplished a strong framework in residential architecture for both single-family houses and high-rise buildings, as well as developing various projects in the Gulf ranging from clinics, hospitals to schools and offices.
The firm has received several international awards such as the World Architecture Festival Award (WAF) in 2010 and 2011. The recognition comes also from the Arab world. In addition to the Middle East Architect Awards, AGi architects have obtained two other prizes in the Arabian edition of the International Property Awards which was recently held: BBS Preschool won for Best Public Service and will continue to compete globally at the International Property Awards, and Wafra Shore was Highly Commended in the Mixed Use Architecture Category of the Arabian Property Awards.
Furthermore in 2012, the firms’ design for Kuwait Children’s Hospital was Highly Commended for Best Hospital Design Award (Future) at the Hospital Build & Infrastructure Awards, as well as winning the WAF 2010 award for Future Projects – Health Category, amongst other awards.
Middle East Architect Awards
The Middle East Architect Awards recognizes the best projects and individuals in the region and throughout the year; ranging from the world’s tallest towers to exclusive villas, and veteran designers to recently established young architects.
Despite MEA’s admittance of a diverse range of nominees featuring projects and firms from all around the MENA Region and reaching into new markets such as Saudi Arabia and Libya, the expert panel of judges awarded only the very best projects and individuals.
Although the world is facing a challenging economic climate, the MEA Awards has managed to grow every year since its inception.
