Mersin Integrated Health Campus Building
The Mersin Integrated Health Campus has a bed capacity of 1.294, where NKY Architects & Engineers, highly experienced in healthcare design, successfully completed all conceptual design, medical planning, construction documents and detailing of the hospital.
The building consists of three hospital blocks, each a Center of Excellence for General, Women’s – Children’s and Oncology specialties; surrounding a central diagnostic & treatment core.
The building flows with the natural topography of the site, where three main entrances sit on three different levels from north to south.
The campus is easily spotted both from the city center and from the nearby intercity road, making it easy for visitors to find their way in their first visit to the hospital.
The design builds on top of a modular system that allows absolute flexibility and expandability over the current and future use of the facility. Presenting the built area in a human-scale and creating a healing and comforting environment for the patients as well as motivating the hospital staff are among the main driving design principles for the hospital that has a total construction area of 369.591 m2.
All inpatients and especially ICU patients can access natural daylight and outside scenery directly. The hospital contains 492 single-bed acute care rooms, 246 double-bed acute care rooms, and 120 single-bed ICU rooms, a 60-bed NICU ward, a 6-bed ITU and 26 single-bed LDRP rooms.
Additionally, the building houses numerous units and centers with state-of-the-art technology including 52 operating rooms, an 80-bed Emergency Department, 276 exam rooms, a Radiation Oncology Center, a Burn Unit, an IVF Unit and suite or intra-operative OR’s that allow organ transplants or MRI capabilities.
The central core building also has a helipad that is directly connected to the surgical suite and the emergency department with a dedicated trauma elevator. The official opening ceremony for this Turkish healthcare building took place on February 3rd.
A high-end building insulation to minimize carbon emissions, solar panels and a trigeneration system to support power demand are also utilized. On top of a 3.200 car indoor parking area, various surface parking is also included in the design.
