The Mark Shopping Centre
Surfers Paradise’s retail scene is about to get a $5 million boost, with construction underway on Stage 1 of The Mark Shopping Centre refurbishment project. The project will include a new arcade linking Orchid Avenue to the Soul Surfers Paradise development, delivering the final stage of the long-awaited ‘River to Beach’ pedestrian link in Surfers Paradise.

Sybarite’s design for the Marni flagship in Beijing marks a shift in the evolution of the concept, utilising strong geometry and giving familiar elements a new twist. Backlit fibreglass boxes remain a central feature but the form has been squared off and enlarged, accommodating both shelving and hanging displays.

The panels of the façade are perforated using Braille, which both alludes to the system’s use on pharmaceutical packaging and boosts visibility by allowing the light to find its way into the interior. The new facade also protects the interior while acting as a lure for passers-by.

‘House of Pertijs’ has its roots in a traditional family-owned watch and jewellery store where clients were treated more like friends than customers. To create more customer flow, the owner came up with a new vision: why not combine these different product groups in one store? The idea of a watch and jewellery concept store was born.
