Holmes appointed architect for redeveloped community centre in Jedburgh
NHS Borders has appointed a design team, led by architects Holmes, to progress the planning of a redeveloped Community Health Centre in Jedburgh on the current site.
The Health Centre will provide improved facilities for the Jedburgh GP practice and the wider community healthcare team and it will afford the opportunity for the provision of Scottish Borders Council services from the premises, improving access for the public and promoting cooperation within the public sector.
It will be planned in conjunction with Scottish Borders Council, the voluntary sector and patient/public representatives along with the extended Primary Healthcare Team, thus reflecting the needs of the community. The redeveloped community health centre will be capable of providing services for up to 7,500 patients.
The prominent location of the site in the town and the wider historical and architectural context were important considerations for Holmes’ initial design concept for the project. Recognising that the new building needed to generate a strong civic presence, Holmes took full advantage of the strong visual relationship between the Castle, the Abbey and the site to develop a design solution which will ultimately enhance and respect the local environment.
NHS Borders Chair Mary Wilson said: “The appointment of the design team is an important step in this exciting project for our own services and with our partners and I am delighted to note the good progress being made in fulfilling this objective.”
Callum Houston, Partner at Holmes said: “Holmes is delighted to be working with NHS Borders and the wider stakeholder group to realise this high-profile and important project for the town and community of Jedburgh. The design solution will balance the historical and vernacular context of the site and Jedburgh whilst ensuring the provision of modern 21st Century healthcare and council accommodation”.
