LOG selected as finalist in Sukkah City 2010

With over 600 entries from 43 countries, Sukkah City 2010 was one of largest architectural competitions in recent history.

Abrahams May Architects has been selected as one of 12 finalists, whose entry will be built in Union Square, NYC on September 19, 2010. Their entry, entitled LOG, seeks to address the scale of the typical s’chach roof found on Sukkot. Typically the s’chach roof is an assemblage of branches, small sticks, and other plant material. LOG exaggerates the scale of these members into one piece that is able to provide shade for the inhabitants. As a means of showcasing this element, the walls become 4 pieces of 1″ thick glass, with no other columns or supports, so the log foundation floats above. Above all the design shows a simplicity of concept, impeccable craft, and a restraint against excessive assemblages.

Scott Abrahams completed his architectural studies at RISD in 1996. Scott – ect architect and worked on numerous award-winning projects including the Qiora Store & Spa, Colorado House, Armed Forces Recruiting Station, Paper Architecture (OMA). Scott then had a private practice where he designed the
Opaque Loft residence and an entry for the WTC Memorial Competition.
Later, Scott worked on the Museum Plaza project at REX as a Senior Architect.
Scott is licensed in NY state and has also taught architectural studios at RISD.

After completing his graduate studies, Kyle May quickly won an international design competition (www.poto.ca) and then moved from his Midwest construction background to develop REX’s Museum Plaza project. Kyle then worked on conceptual designs for residential and retail projects at Openshop / Studio, winners of the 2008 AIA New Practices Award. Later, Kyle designed with FACE Design + Fabrication, working with clients such as D.E. Shaw, Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Steven Holl, where he completed numerous designs from conception to fabrication and installation.

Abrahams-May Architects was founded in 2010 in New York City to couple conceptual clarity with an interest in material research, progressive programming, and innovative detailing.

Current projects include LOG for Sukkah City, a private residence in Ohio, and several residential proposals.
