The design for this contemporary Pavilion represents a journey of discovery with a pattern that always changes, by dissolving gradually to reveal the beauty of the Museum Gardens environment as the visitors move outwards from the central chamber – A fascinating maze of discovery, fusing the inside with the outside. It is one that architect hoped will echo with London and the fusion of different cultures and communities.

The fifth edition of ArchTriumph‘s Triumph Pavilion in the Museum Gardens in Bethnal Green, London E2 9PA, next to the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum of Childhood is providing the public with a playful and elegant maze of discovery.

With an intriguing layering of tile curtains to create a three-dimensional effect that dissolves as visitors explore the structure towards the central seating chamber – certainly a worthy reward and adds to the experience of finding this beautiful central resting space.

The installation, which also coincides with the London Festival of Architecture, is one of the main annual highlights of Pavilions in the UK capital during summer.

Julie Biron, a Berlin based practice headed by French architect Julie Biron was selected to design this year’s Pavilion on the basis of the stunning proposal and contemporary interpretation of this year’s Triumph Pavilion theme of “Infusion” exploring the use of tiles in architecture exteriors and interiors.

The stunning design chosen from hundreds of proposals submitted to an annual international competition is finished with Villeroy & Boch tiles and engineered by Buro Happold represents a journey of discovery with a pattern that is always changes, by dissolving gradually to reveal the beauty of the Museum Gardens environment as the visitors move outwards from the central chamber – A fascinating maze of discovery, fusing the inside with the outside. It is one that architect hoped will echo with London and the fusion of different cultures and communities.

The Pavilion is a self-supporting structure measuring approximately 2.50m in height and 67m² in area. Constructed primarily out of coated steel frames, stainless steel cables and ceramic tiles, it is supported by solid steel ground beams underpinned by structured steel ground anchors with carbon steel heads. The entire structure weighs approximately 6,000 kg (6 tonnes).
