Cadogan celebrates Chelsea’s artistic heritage by unveiling Rossetti Studios restoration project
• Studios re-opened during Kensington & Chelsea Art Week
• Original features sensitively recreated in collaboration with artisans and historians
• Studios leased to independent local artists to protect Chelsea’s artistic history and character
London 6th October 2020 – Cadogan, the family-owned business that manages over 90 acres across Kensington & Chelsea, is showcasing its commitment to Chelsea’s artistic heritage with its lead sponsorship role of Kensington & Chelsea Art Week for the third year running.
As part of the eleven-day festival, Cadogan has animated its public spaces, welcoming art installations at Duke of York Square and Sloane Square, and holding an open-air photography exhibition, curated by Alison Jackson, on the running track outside the Saatchi Gallery.
Cadogan has a long-standing commitment to preserving the rich history of art in the Borough and is marking Art Week by reopening the Rossetti Studios, following a four-year restoration project. The studios will be occupied by local artists highlighting Cadogan’s recognition of the role Chelsea’s artistic heritage plays in the fabric of the community.
72 Flood Street Property Renewal
The studios, purchased by Cadogan in 2016, were in a poor state of repair. Grade II listed, they were rescued as part of a £4m project to return the premises to their original purpose, while enhancing their character and history with modern-day functionality.
The restoration project was a collaboration between Cadogan, architects Feilden+Mawson, local historians, and artists to highlight the existing heritage, such as canvas slits, maisonettes, fireplaces and lanterns, source and recreate original features, and incorporate new design to support modern techniques.
Cadogan has produced a digital book on the restoration of Rossetti Studios. It has been released this week to coincide with KCAW, which itself has taken a more digital/virtual approach this year post-pandemic.
