New Build on the Heath : Another Win for Progressive Classical Design
Robert Adam Architects’ designs for a substantial classical house in Hampstead, replacing the 1970s Heath Park building, have been granted planning permission.

The large new house will be a dramatic addition to the area. It is one of an amazing total of eight houses being designed by the practice in Hampstead. Each house, while traditional or classical, is a unique response to the particular site and the needs of the owners.
This design, in a highly sensitive location, was supported by Camden Council and described by the Heath and Hampstead Society as “a notable example of Robert Adam’s period style.”
It is another example of Robert Adam Architects’ skill in making modern houses, with all their conveniences and features, into harmonious classical compositions.
Essentially a simple low square form with large windows on the south side, skillful application of fine classical decoration and details transform a flat brick structure into an elegant residence.
The site dictated a low structure to avoid competition with the adjacent and historic Heath House so the architects’ designs accommodate 11,000 sq ft of the building’s total 27,000 sq ft within the lower ground floor and complement a striking new garden by Mark Walker.
The consent is part of a wider permission from London Borough of Camden Council for a co-ordinated scheme proposed by the Heath House Property Partnership to renovate and lift the entire Heath House area.
The wider scheme will further provide improvements to the Grade II early Georgian Heath House, which was altered by extensions and damaged in World War II, restoring the house and its extensive grounds, public paths, boundary wall and War Memorial.
