4–18 co-educational, independent, Church of England, day school and sixth form in Dulwich.
van Heyningen and Haward developed a masterplan that includes an analysis of both the existing building stock and the land available to Alleyn’s School, providing a Development Framework for the next 15 – 20 years.
The first phase is the Edward Alleyn Building which includes a 350 seat theatre designed with excellent acoustic qualities and sightlines to the stage, teaching facilities and a studio theatre for use by the National Youth Theatre. A new terrace opens off the foyer, allowing views over the playing fields. A double quad between the new and existing school buildings benefits the whole school community, both physically and socially.
A particular focus of the proposals is the creation of a new heart for the School centred on a new landscaped square. The proposals build on what already makes the School campus a special place and looks to unlock its future potential, whilst at the same time reinforcing the standing of Alleyn’s as a first class independent school.
“The building works brilliantly.” – Colin Diggory, Headmaster
