Ethos sponsors Belfast Design Week student post competition
Belfast Design Week and Scott Lawrie’s Ethos Design & Architecture have collaborated to run a student design competition with Ulster University.
As part of Belfast Design Week – November 2 to 9 – Ulster University’s Belfast School of Art is running a competition for its graphic design and illustration students to design a poster focused on one specific attraction or business within Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. Students are free to choose the subject, for example something they feel is hidden or especially worthy of greater recognition. The poster should be image-based and could be photographic, illustrative, a collage, etc.
Scott Lawrie, Managing Director of Ethos comments, “We are really pleased to be supporting Belfast Design Week and Ulster University’s Belfast School of Art. We’re passionate about the city and we’re looking forward to our designs for Belfast Aquarium coming to life. It’s important that design, in all its forms, is used as a COVID-era boost to Northern Ireland’s economy.”
Dr Brian Dixon from Ulster University’s Belfast School of Art added, “We are delighted to have Ethos sponsor this competition for our Graphic Design students. It is a fantastic gesture. The support from Ethos provides them with an invaluable opportunity to present their work to established creatives in their field, as well as the wider public. The students are also excited to be contributing to the city’s revitalisation at this critical time.”
Karishma Kusurkar from Belfast Design Week noted, “We’re excited to feature Ulster University’s design project at Belfast Design Week this year. The project explores one of our city’s most important cultural areas, The Cathedral Quarter, which over the past few years has become a tourism highlight. With the pandemic affecting all businesses, and in particular the arts sector, we cannot wait to see what the students come up with to show the hidden gems that currently exist, showcase the people and businesses that make the quarter what it is, and explore the future of the area. Having a design industry leader like Ethos contribute through sponsorship and their knowledge will be a great opportunity for the students.
