BASF SE project scoops both Overall Winner and Offices prizes at the annual Architectural Review MIPIM Future Projects Awards
BASF SE High-Rise Building
Eller + Eller Architekten’s high rise office design for BASF SE in Ludwigshafen, Germany was awarded the prestigious ‘Overall Winner’ prize at the conclusion of this year’s Architectural Review MIPIM Future Projects Awards ceremony. The 26.000 sqm (gross) project, which was also successful in the Offices category of the awards, is currently in the planning phase.
‘High-rise BASF SE’ comprises two 88m high slim tower elements, linked by a transparent ‘gap’, which articulates the uniform, geometric shape of the structure and boasts an asymmetrical allocation of the services core.
The project, which is designed to house approximately 600 staff, incorporates an observatory deck and contemporary office and conference space, while the ‘future orientated’ architectural language offers a high degree of flexibility in relation to changes to the office landscape. In addition, the transparent ‘gap’ between the two slim towers houses areas for communication, meetings and breakout, and benefits from a maximum of natural daylight.
The expert jury noted that the projects “feels as though it will be a good place to work, (featuring) an elegant project with a shell plan and innovative façade which fits its context effortlessly.”
The Overall Winner prize is only revealed on the evening on the Awards ceremony.
This year’s Architectural Review MIPIM Future Projects Awards celebrated 26 exemplar architectural projects from around the globe, which were selected from across ten separate categories and a number of additional special prizes during the awards ceremony and gala dinner in Cannes.
The winners included projects by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Mecanoo, gpy arquitectos, WS Atkins, NBBJ and Tabanlioglu Architects, among others.
This year’s jury included Dr. Sutherland Lyall, architectural journalist, Company; Roger Zogolovitch, creative director, Solidspace; and Peter Stewart, architect and principal, Peter Stewart Consultancy. Paul Finch, programme director, World Architecture Festival, chaired the jury.
Now in their 15th year, the awards are the only competition exclusively celebrating excellence in unbuilt or incomplete projects. With a strong focus on creativity, the awards are a chance to showcase projects that are examples of innovative and outstanding architecture that have successfully responded to the development brief, and have also taken into consideration the full impact and contribution they will make on the communities around them.
The awards ceremony always takes place during MIPIM, the global property market, which usually attracts over 20,000 delegates. All award entries are published in the celebratory Architectural Review MIPIM Future Projects Awards catalogue, which is distributed to all MIPIM delegates.
The Architectural Review MIPIM Future Projects Awards are organised in participation with EMAP, and are supported by Bespoke and Grohe, with FTI Consulting as the official communication partner.
