Karndean partners with PLATFORM_ to build the future for rental communities in Sheffield
A trusted supplier of luxury vinyl flooring, Karndean Designflooring has partnered with PLATFORM_, an integrated developer and operator of purpose-built residential communities, to offer a luxury Build to Rent complex in the centre of Sheffield.
Designed with modern lifestyles in mind, the contemporary apartments feature airy living and entertaining spaces, brought alive with nature inspired colour schemes and over 10,000sqm of oak design flooring.
Richard Allen, sales director at Karndean Designflooring said: “In today’s competitive rental market, discerning clients are looking for more than accommodation with a high end finish. They are also looking to join a vibrant community with convenience and smart connectivity as part of the package.
“Providing high quality accommodation with ample social spaces, tech-enabled amenities and a personalised service is key to creating desirable homes and sustainable communities that make city life both exciting and practical. The importance of creating beautiful homes that really work for residents cannot be overstated so we are proud to be involved in this development.”
Platform Co-Living offers 335 units over three buildings, each of the three buildings has a unique character with its own colour scheme, a styling decision that offers residents optionality and a degree of personalisation. A natural contemporary style combines an interesting aesthetic and a welcoming homely feel.
Inspired by the forward thinking approach of this dynamic city and rugged wild landscapes of the surrounding Peak District, the interiors are naturally stylish and designed to support wellbeing. Each unit features an organic colour scheme built around one of three focal colours; forest green, stormy blue and warm terracotta.
Aleks Dineva, design and mobilisation coordinator at PLATFORM_, said: “When the team was debating potential colour schemes, we realised there was no scheme which was our overall favourite: everyone had a different preference. So we decided to go with different colour palettes in each of the buildings to offer our clients a choice, something that proved popular with each scheme leasing very similarly.”
In each apartment block, the bold colours are combined with statement lighting and softly curved furniture. The natural theme is picked up again in the Karndean LooseLay and LooseLay Longboard oak design flooring, laid in either straight lay or herringbone patterns, which provides a comfortable yet practical surface.
Aleks explained: “We chose Karndean flooring for the living, dining, kitchen and hall spaces in each apartment for its durability and easy maintenance, something that’s especially important as we are a pet friendly operator. One of the reasons we opted for the loose lay format was that, should any damage occur, it’s an easy task to lift and replace just the affected area. The high quality of this flooring gives both residents and us as operators complete peace of mind.
“Karndean’s wide choice of designs allows us to express our brand direction. We are also keen to work with businesses that have a credible sustainability policy and are making significant progress on their environmental credentials.”
Richard added: “Karndean is working tirelessly to meet both the needs of the interior design market and ensure a more sustainable future for our built environment. We know that the construction industry needs to make radical changes and that this work needs to be open and transparent to retain trust.
“Just as our business was founded on innovation, bold action and a pioneering spirit, we remain committed to making courageous changes. This is why our Karndean EvolveTM sustainability strategy, which sets out how we will transition towards a greener business, is backed up by independent assessments of our supply chain by SEDEX.”
Karndean LooseLay and LooseLay Longboard feature a host of practical benefits including a waterproof, hygienic surface that’s easy to maintain, a durable 0.55mm wear layer and R10 slip resistance. An integrated acoustic layer reduces impact noise transfer to rooms below by 13dB. Easy to install over most hard subfloors without the need for adhesive, just a tackifier around room peripheries and doorways, Karndean LooseLay and LooseLay Longboard are suitable for any room in the home and come with a lifetime residential guarantee.
