St John’s College Library: typical Edward Cullinan building with its soft use of postmodernism and contextual style, here in its similar brick colour and use of stone mouldings and architraves. Yet this architecture is clearly modern and the spiral lantern at the top pretty striking. Another Ted Cullinan building in Cambridge is the Faculty of Divinity (two projects below this one).

This is a masterful piece of Cambridge architecture, using the same crisp white articulation of facades as their St John’s College buildings. Like Casson & Conder’s Sidgwick building Powell & Moya have set accommodation above the pedestrian a la Le Corbusier.

An attempt to continue the Powell & Moya architecture to the west was undertaken by current Cambridge architects, Bland, Brown & Cole in 1989 – Queens’ College Lyon Court.
