Landscape Architects of the Year 2009 Winner
New practice voted ‘Landscape Architects of the Year 2009’
rankinfraser landscape architecture have celebrated the end of their first year in practice by being voted as Landscape Architects of the Year 2009 in Prospect Magazine’s ‘Best of the Professions Survey’. The awards are voted for by the readers of the architectural magazine and its online presence.
The Edinburgh-based practice was established in January 2008 by Chris Rankin and Kenny Fraser and has developed an interesting and varied portfolio with projects ranging from Inverness to Bedfordshire. Recent projects include a shortlisted entry for the Pennine Lancashire Squared International Design Competition with Graeme Massie Architects and Donald Urquhart, the development of a landscape masterplan for the Speirs Lock area of Glasgow and the detailed design of a public space under the M8 motorway with 7N Architects.
Smaller scale projects include a commission to design a walled garden within an 18thc defensive battery at Dunbar Harbour and a collaboration with artist Alec Finlay on proposals to improve Springburn Park in Glasgow.
The practice is also hoping to extend its work into Europe after an invitation to collaborate on a series of projects in Belgium.
Commenting on the award Chris Rankin said, “This came as a real surprise. It is very welcome to get recognition from our colleagues after only one year in practice. We very much hope to continue to work with a variety of interesting architects and other professionals in the coming year.”
