2013 Facades Engineering Excellence Awards
A major boost to the importance and credibility of this newly created Award, which was launched by The Society of Façade Engineering to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Daniel Libeskind will make the presentation on 20th November at The Glass Supper, the annual event attended by architects, engineers and others involved with the discipline of high performance architectural façades.
With shortlisted finalists to be announced on November 15th 2013, organisers are reporting a significant number of ‘high quality and enthusiastic’ entries. “We are delighted at the number and quality of entries to FAÇADE2013,” said Chris Macey, Chairman of the Judges for the competition and CEO of Wintech Group. “To have such a high-profile and respected architect as Daniel Libeskind to present the Award to the winner of the first competition is a great honour for the Society and of course, for the recipient.”
With a deadline of 1st November entries are still being encouraged from individuals, project teams and companies from around the world, with the prize awarded on a project basis. A panel of experts will decide upon a winner that will demonstrate excellence in technical design and/or research that can be seen to have made a significant contribution to the discipline of façade engineering.
Further information on FAÇADE2013 and how to enter can be found at: www.sfecompetition.org. Details of The Glass Supper may be found at www.intelligentpublications.com.

FAÇADE2013
SOCIETY AWARD DESIGNED TO BOOST AWARENESS OF FAÇADE DESIGN AND ENGINEERING: Entry opens for inaugural building façade competition.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary The Society of Façade Engineering* has announced the launch of FAÇADE2013, an international competition designed to recognise, promote and reward excellence in this key element of building design and construction.

The prize will be awarded on a project basis with entries welcome from individuals, projects teams and companies from around the world. The winner will be decided upon by a panel of experts who will make their choice based upon a clear demonstration of excellence in the technical design and/or research that has made a significant contribution to the discipline of façade engineering. The contribution may be demonstrated in the form of technical advances, innovations or advanced engineering systems that result in practical design solutions for the completion of a project. The Society will announce the names of the judging panel shortly.
Chris Macey, CEO of Wintech Group, is the Competition Chairman of the Society of Façade Engineering and a major proponent of FAÇADE2013: “Many of the demands for ever-higher building performance can only be met by proper consideration of the contribution of façades, whilst also satisfying the aesthetic vision of the client and design team.
“The discipline of façade engineering has therefore come of age and there is wider recognition of the technical, engineering and scientific underpinning that is required to push construction to new heights and levels of achievement. This competition is intended to recognise and reward excellence in this key area of building design and execution and we welcome entries from anyone involved in this key niche.”
The winner will be announced at The Glass Supper, an annual event attended by architects, engineers and others involved with the discipline of high performance architectural façades. Taking place this year in London on November 20th this discreet gathering has been growing by reputation since its inception three years ago. The Glass Supper offers a programme of networking, discussion and the sharing of philosophies and visions on an open and neutral platform. Attended by an assembly of some of the world’s most influential architects and engineers The Glass Supper is seen therefore as a fitting occasion for the announcement of the winner of FAÇADE2013.
Entries must be received by 1st November 2013 and the shortlisted finalists will be announced by November 15th 2013.
*The Society of Facade Engineering was formed in 2004 as a joint initiative of CIBSE, IStructE and the RIBA. It is governed by a Council drawn from among its members and administered by CIBSE.
The Society provides a forum in which architects, façade engineers, building services engineers, structural engineers and contractors can work together to advance knowledge and practice in façade engineering, promote good practice and ensure that today’s increasingly complex building façades meet the many and varying performance criteria. In particular, it addresses the complex issues in building physics of thermal insulation, ventilation, lighting, solar control, and acoustics.
