Ronald Lu & Partners Continues Awards Streak with Four MIPIM Asia Wins
The future-focused sustainable architecture firm takes home two gold, one silver and one bronze
Ronald Lu & Partners – 2023 MIPIM Asia Awards
8 December 2023, Hong Kong: Last night, Hong Kong-based architecture practice Ronald Lu & Partners (RLP Asia) won four MIPIM Asia Awards for three projects: AIRSIDE, by Snøhetta in collaboration with Ronald Lu & Partners, Garden Crescent and the Tonkin Street Redevelopment Project. Over the last few weeks, the firm has amassed a string of awards, including an impressive nine Hong Kong Green Building Awards, and three Hong Kong Institute of Architects Awards.
These awards honour the architecture industry’s most sustainable and visionary projects in Asia-Pacific that have been completed or are yet to be built. Bryant Lu, RLP Asia’s Vice-Chairman, commented that, “We are both honoured and humbled by the recognition we have received from the industry over the past few weeks. Each win demonstrates our leadership in the field of sustainable architecture – from a unique ‘forest building’ residential project, to a mixed-use office and retail complex, to the first private residential project in Hong Kong to use modulated integrated construction to execute biophilic, human-centric design – all these embody our enduring commitment to sustainable design principles.”
RLP Asia is committed to creating sustainable, resilient designs that can withstand the challenges of climate change. Moving forward, the firm will build on these wins, continuing to create designs that are adaptable to extreme temperatures and weather events, and that deliver positive impacts for communities and the environment through life-centric, future-focused and culturally appropriate solutions. By prioritising both sustainability and resilience, RLP Asia is paving the way towards a sustainable, carbon-neutral future.
AIRSIDE in East Kowloon
AIRSIDE – 2023 MIPIM Asia Awards – Two Gold Awards (Best Mixed-Use Project & Best Office Project)
AIRSIDE office and retail development in East Kowloon, designed by Snøhetta in collaboration with Ronald Lu & Partners:
A truly green Grade-A office and retail development on the site of the former Kai Tak Airport in East Kowloon, this 1.9 million sq. ft complex is comprised of a 200m-high 32-storey office tower, a multi-storey retail complex, a public transport interchange, and multiple sustainable design elements.
AIRSIDE fosters connections between corporates, the community and nature, and promotes environmental awareness through innovation and technology.
Garden Crescent in Ho Man Tin
Garden Crescent – 2023 MIPIM Asia Awards – Silver Award (Best Residential Project)
Garden Crescent in Ho Man Tin, Kowloon:
Garden Crescent in Ho Man Tin is a “real forest building” that brings nature back into a high-density urban environment, using multi-layered green design, sustainable lifestyle elements and a design philosophy of “nature on every doorstep”.
Garden Crescent’s award is particularly significant, as it means it has now won multiple awards for architectural excellence and sustainability – a rare achievement for a single-tower residential building.
Tonkin Street Redevelopment Project, HK
The Tonkin Street Redevelopment Project – 2023 MIPIM Asia Awards – Bronze Award (Best New Development)
The Tonkin Street Redevelopment in Hong Kong:
The Tonkin Street Redevelopment Project is the first private residential project in Hong Kong to use modular integrated construction, or MiC. Employing this sustainable, efficient technology means that 90% of the building can be pre-fabricated off-site, minimising disruption in one of Hong Kong’s most densely-packed neighbourhoods.
The building is an urban oasis, with multi-level green areas, a sky garden to improve the surrounding microclimate and a large urban plaza that will bring the community and the natural world together, creating positive social and environmental impacts.
