Triin Ojari, the Director of the Estonian Museum of Architecture, is a member of the jury as a representative of the Mies Prize Advisory Committee.
A demanding jury of distinguished professionals with different backgrounds who will evaluate all the works of the EU Mies Award 2022 in a holistic approach, from their conception and construction phases to their final use by the people. The jury of the EU Mies Award 2022 is formed by: Tatiana Bilbao, Francesca Ferguson, Mia Hägg, Triin Ojari, Georg Pendl, Spiros Pengas and Marcel Smets.
The prize is awarded by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation in Barcelona. The tradition dates back to 1987, and in 2001 the Mies van der Rohe Prize became the official architectural prize of the European Union. The prize includes a cash prize of 60,000 euros. In addition to the main prize, the foundation also issues a special prize for a young architect.
This time, independent European architectural experts, national professional associations and the award’s advisory committee nominated more than 500 sites for the award. They will select 40 outstanding works of architecture from which 5 will become the finalists and, after visiting them, they will appoint the winner of the EU Mies Award for Architecture and the Emerging winner.
There are eight Estonian objects among the total number of nominations: Fotografiska (Salto architects), Haapsalu castle (KAOS architects), Suure-Jaani Health center (Architect Must ja Kuup Disain), Maidla nature villa (b210), Võru central square (Studio Tallinn), high voltage line design Soorebane (PART), Joint study and accommodation building of the Narva Study Center of the Academy of Internal Affairs and Narva College of the Tartu University Tartu (3 + 1 architects) and Tartu Lodjakoda (Barge construction workshop, by Salto architects).
