Interview with the Founder of Urbanist Architecture Ufuk Bahar
Urbanist Architecture, Founder Ufuk Bahar, London:
What sparked your interest in studying architecture?
Ufuk Bahar: I was first interested in architecture when I was around 9 or 10, and my internet became my profession. My interest in design was also an ongoing passion for me. I decided to study architecture to gain deeper knowledge in this field, improve my skills, and come up with creative designs.
How did you decide to start a company in London? What were your experiences during decision and implementation processes?
Ufuk Bahar: To tell the truth, I am quite proud of starting an architecture practice, Urbanist Architecture, and realizing such a dream in London, one of the most crowded metropolitan cities of the world.
One may say that you need to have strong connections related to your profession and a certain capital accumulation to make a successful and long-lasting initiative in London. As a matter of fact, I lacked connections to begin with; I had a very hard time during the first years, I even had moments when I considered giving up. At that time, our heart pounded when we received a new request from a customer. We initially started achieving success in small projects and, over time, we tended towards medium and large-scale projects with references from our earlier projects.
Today, as a company, we offer a wide range of architectural services. Our mission is to resolve the gaps in the industry using our knowledge and know-how accumulated in these areas. We have completed more than 700 projects by offering services in London and in the UK. Total worth of the projects that we have completed exceeds £150 million.
We were neither smarter nor more experienced than other people. We just made differences in this industry to realize what other people could not do by taking chances. Thanks to the confidence that we gained, Urbanist Architecture became one of the emerging architecture practices in London.
How many people does your team involve and what are your fields of service?
Ufuk Bahar: We have over 10 professionals, each specialized in different disciplines, from town planning to urban design, architecture to interior design. Thus, we are able to offer solutions for almost all needs of property investors and developers. Our services always begin with the step of conducting a feasibility survey to ensure their project is realistic.
We initially understand their lifestyles and hear their needs; then, we ensure that they invest in a better future in the light of a good design. We provide turnkey solutions with tailored projects covering architecture, interior design and urban design disciplines.
