Interior design in 2023 – What does the future hold?
4 Oct 2022
Like in the world of fashion, interior design trends are always changing. Designers and manufacturers are constantly coming up with new solutions and ideas to make your home look and feel amazing, with some of those ideas coming back around every few decades in cycles.
Similarly to fashion, it can be hard to keep up with those constantly evolving trends. What’s in one season is suddenly terribly gauche the next – and while you don’t have to pay attention to those changing norms, it can be nice to feel informed when making styling decisions. With that in mind, here are some interior design trends to watch out for as we head towards 2023. A big thanks to the team at Woodyatt Curtains for assisting with their much appreciated insights!
Net curtains
A notable interior design trend that’s making a comeback is the net curtain, and it’s not hard to see why. They can provide privacy to rooms that passers-by could otherwise glance into, while still allowing most of the natural light to enter.
They also add a kind of softness to a space; while so many recent interior design fads have favoured hard lines and sharp angles in the name of modernity and a clean aesthetic, it can be nice to have something a little more delicate in a space that is, after all, your home.
Alcoves
There’s something so romantic about a little alcove in a building, and interior designers have thought the same for thousands of years. As a result, it’s no surprise that they’re making a comeback, but often with a modern twist.
You don’t need to have a statue of a small roman god, you can place anything in your little niche or alcove, or leave it empty. What really makes it come to life however is a little light – something soft, perhaps, reminiscent of the days when it would have been lit by a candle or flaming torch.
Indoor gardens
Plants have been in (literally) for a while – they clean the air, bringing a bit of the magical wild outside world into your home, while asking for just a little water and light in return. In 2023, it’ll be time to take things to the next level.
No matter how much space you have, it’s possible to make room for a little indoor garden. It’s easy to find inspiration and can revolutionise the feel of all kinds of indoor spaces.
Wellbeing
What we’re coming to realise is that in this fast-paced and often stressful modern world, a home is predominantly a place where we come to focus on our wellbeing. Whatever trend you follow, keep this in mind – you want your living spaces to help you relax and prepare for the outside world.
These few design ideas should be enough to have you excited to get started on your interior design project. Remember, you don’t have to follow trends – that being said, they can often provide useful ideas that you wouldn’t have otherwise thought of.
