PON- Estudio de Arquitectos decided to organize the Rancagua Station project based on the modulation of the “large deck” that orders and unifies all activities. The project is conceived through a series of premises aimed at making land use and circulation more efficient, these premises fall into three large groups that summarize the following words: INNOVATION, SUSTAINABILITY and PROFITABILITY.
“Innovation”, in the way of conceiving a station in an integral way, both as a business and as a social meeting place for the neighborhood, where light, warmth and vegetation are incorporated as fundamental premises of the project.
We understand “sustainability”, such as the efficient use of available resources, the frank opening towards the environment, the incorporation of pre-existing vegetation, the use of natural light to reduce energy consumption, and the provision of 4500 sqm of roof for the installation of solar paneling and pergola of vegetation.
“Profitability” understood as the generation of value to improve the competitive differentiation strategy of the premises, from the operational capacity, the fluidity of the vehicle circulation, the positive customer experience, the use of the land and the strong commercial presence of the oil company since the 4 access fronts.
The “Rancagua Station” is located in the city of Córdoba, at the exit to the north on Provincial Route A174, it is a peri-urban area undergoing transformation as a result of the demographic growth that characterizes all major Latin American cities.
The program of activities is distributed as follows, on the ground floor is the Shop, services, Lubriservice, and complementary commercial premises. The vehicular circulation area has parking spaces for light and heavy vehicles, the cargo area has 3 CNG islands, 3 islands of liquid fuel for light and 2 islands of liquid fuel for heavy vehicles. The company’s office area is housed on the top floor.
The materiality criterion can be summarized in 2 well-differentiated strata for functional reasons, the “Stratum-Zero Level” materialized in glass to favor access and visual communication with the public and the “Stratum-Level One” which is materialized mostly closed with block and superboard for security control and thermal conditioning.
The green areas and stone beds contribute to signaling the access points and to qualify the spaces for visitors to stay. Low maintenance local species were used. Part of the pre-existing conifers were preserved and incorporated into the design under the large canopy.
