Horden Cherry Lee Architects is a London‑based architectural studio known for its thoughtful, context‑driven design and a broad portfolio that spans cultural, educational, commercial, and residential projects. The firm’s work balances clarity of concept with careful attention to detail and materiality, often responding sensitively to historic contexts while introducing contemporary spatial qualities.
Design Approach:
The practice prioritizes structural logic and spatial order, often developing projects around simple, rational plans that are refined through proportion, light, and detail.
There is a strong interest in how buildings mediate between urban context and interior life, creating spaces that feel both grounded and engaging.
Materiality and craftsmanship play an important role, with a preference for tactile and enduring materials that age gracefully.
Key Projects by Horden Cherry Lee Architects:
• Newfoundland – A landmark 62‑storey residential tower in Canary Wharf, currently one of the tallest purpose‑built build‑to‑rent buildings in the UK. The project includes 636 apartments along with amenities like gym, play spaces, café, and ground‑floor retail. Its striking diagrid structure makes it a significant addition to the London skyline.
• HYLO – A multi‑award winning redevelopment of a 1960s office block on Bunhill Row in Islington. The project extended the existing tower upwards by adding 13 storeys, incorporating new office space, retail, and affordable workspace, as well as social housing.
• 30 Crown Place – A contemporary commercial building in the City of London noted for its bold form and dynamic geometry.
• Various office and commercial schemes in Moorgate and the City of London – Including office buildings on Chiswell Street, contributing to central London’s commercial architecture.
• Micro Compact Home – An innovative portable, prefabricated mini‑home concept developed in collaboration with German partners, exploring compact living and mobility in architecture.
