RIBA President named Woman of Outstanding Achievement for Leadership and Innovation
The RIBA is pleased to confirm that RIBA President Angela Brady is the 2012 winner of the Women of Outstanding Achievement Award For Leadership and Inspiration.
The award was presented yesterday (29 November) by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal at the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The Women of Outstanding Achievement Award For Leadership and Inspiration recognises women who are leading STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) businesses, research teams, academic organisations or professional bodies – creating change and transforming culture and ways of working.
The 2012 shortlist included:
• Naomi Climer, Vice President, Sony
• Kathy Ellis, General Manager – Nuclear Propulsion Systems, Rolls-Royce plc
• Professor Alicia El Haj, Chair of Cell engineering, Theme lead in bioengineering and Therapeutics, Institute of Science and Technology in Medicine, University of Keele
• Christina Jackson, Technical Director, Amey
Speaking today RIBA President Angela Brady said:
“I am absolutely delighted to accept this award. It is very important to inspire and encourage more women into our profession. There are barriers to attracting and retaining women in architecture which I have campaigned on throughout my career and presidency.
Inspiring role models are important to attracting women architects, but we also need a galvanized profession committed to retaining the widest talent pool, including women, to deliver an improved built environment for the future. This means that the issue of gender unequal pay, yet again shown in the latest ONS figures is unacceptable. The architecture profession must be able to respond to clients’ needs and the society it designs for.”
Angela Brady is President of RIBA from Sep 2011 – 2013
