SCOTTISH PROPERTY AWARDS 2014 WINNERS ANNOUNCED

27 February 2014 – The best new commercial and public property developments in Scotland have been announced at the inaugural Scottish Property Awards celebrated at a sell-out event in Edinburgh tonight.

The SSE Hydro, the Dundee Waterfront, the Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village and Advocates Close in Edinburgh were among the high-profile winners of the awards which recognise commercial and regeneration projects in towns and cities.
A total of 15 awards were presented including the ultimate award of the night, Scottish Property Company of the Year, won by Ediston Real Estate for their work in UK property investment, development and asset management.
But it was the coordinated effort to create public facilities via private enterprise which found the most success with projects in Kilmarnock, Maryhill, Glenrothes, Irvine and Lasswade all receiving awards from an industry judging panel.

The SSE Hydro, Glasgow:

Dundee celebrated two awards – a Judges Award of Merit for the Dundee Waterfront and an award for Outstanding Individual Achievement, presented to Mike Galloway, the Director of City Development.
While in Aberdeen, Highly Commended awards were presented to the team behind the creation of new town, Chapelton and to Prime Four Business Park for Commercial Development.

The £1 billion development of Winchburgh Village in West Lothian also collected an award for Excellence in Masterplanning.
Alasdair Humphery, Chair of the Scottish Property Federation and judge of the awards commented;
“The Scottish Property Awards have provided a very welcome opportunity to celebrate all the achievements in property in the last year. The quality of work shown by our participants across both private and public sectors has been outstanding and shows positive progress which is very encouraging for our industry. Congratulations to all our finalists and winners.”

Dan Macdonald, Chief Executive of Macdonald Estates and member of the judging panel, commented;
“By rewarding the hard work of teams, businesses and individuals, these awards can be a vital part of our rehabilitation as an industry and are a much valued opportunity for reflection on progress in the last year. Congratulations to all the winners.”
The event was well attended by over 450 of Scotland’s top property experts and followed an open competition which attracted 61 entries from 45 companies including developers, agents, funders and architects.

Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village:

The awards are judged by a panel of experts drawn from commercial property and are supported by a number of sponsors including the Scottish Property Federation and Wolffe Design.
The awards raise funds for the charity It’s Good 2 Give which supports families with children suffering from cancer. Last night guests were shown new plans for a new residential therapeutic retreat which the charity is hoping to build in rural Stirlingshire.
