Tyne Bridge Newcastle
Famous English River Crossing, Northeast England – Historic Architecture by Mott, Hay and Anderson
26 Jun 2009
Tyne Bridge in Newcastle
This is a world-famous and very impressive structure. Part of the power of the spectacle is however gained from the sheer number of bridges that can be seen together here, and the depth of the valley. It dates from 1928.

The structure is a through arch bridge over the River Tyne linking Newcastle upon Tyne on the north bank and Gateshead on the south side of the river.
It was designed by the engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson, who later designed the Forth Road Bridge (1968), and was built by Dorman Long and Co. of Middlesbrough.
The bridge was officially opened on 10 October 1928 by King George V and has since become a landmark symbol of Tyneside. This river crossing is ranked as the tenth tallest structure in the city.
