This unique residential project, located along Horacio Street in the Polanco neighborhood, is positioned prominently in front of a roundabout. The development consists of 13 distinct apartments spread across two connected towers, each rising four stories above ground, with an additional parking level below. The two towers are linked by a central lobby area and a stairway that extends from the parking level to the second floor, providing seamless vertical connectivity throughout the complex. Pedestrian access to the building is available via Alejandro Dumas Street, while vehicular access is conveniently situated on Horacio Street.
A defining feature of this architectural design is its striking use of a single, cohesive material on the facade: glass block. By choosing this material, the architects were able to leverage the glass block’s unique qualities, using its inherent translucency to play with transparency and opacity. This innovative approach allowed for the creation of different visual and lighting effects within the apartments, balancing privacy with natural light. The subtle variation between transparent and opaque sections of the glass block facade lends the building an intriguing, dynamic appearance, as light filters in differently throughout the day and changes based on the interior layout of each apartment.
The apartments themselves are designed to offer versatility and cater to a range of lifestyles and needs. Within the 4,035 square meter project, eleven unique apartment layouts were created, ensuring a variety of spatial arrangements to accommodate diverse preferences. This variety is evident from the lower-level apartments with private patios, which provide residents with outdoor space that feels integrated into the urban environment, to the top-floor units featuring double-height ceilings and terraces that offer expansive views and an airy, open atmosphere.
The thoughtfully designed floor plans emphasize flexibility, allowing each apartment to feel tailored to its occupants. This adaptability in design means that whether a resident prefers a compact, cozy layout or a more expansive, open-concept space, there is an apartment type to suit their needs.
Completed in 2005, this three-story building exemplifies a balance between modern urban living and thoughtful design. By using glass block as the primary facade material, the project achieves a clean and cohesive aesthetic while also enhancing privacy and light quality within each residence. The blend of distinctive architectural elements, varied apartment configurations, and carefully designed access points make this project a standout addition to Polanco, offering a contemporary yet adaptable living experience in one of Mexico City’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
