Libya Architecture Designs – chronological list
Tripoli Buildings
We’ve selected what we feel are the key examples of Tripoli Building Developments. We aim to include projects that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both.
We cover completed Tripoli buildings, new building designs, architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across Libya. The focus is on contemporary buildings but information on traditional buildings is also welcome.
We have 1 page of Tripoli Architecture selections with links to many individual project pages.

Tripoli Architecture + History
Tripoli is the capital city and the largest city of Libya. Tripoli has a population of 1.8 million people. The city is located in the north-western part of Libya on the edge of the desert, on a point of rocky land projecting into the Mediterranean and forming a bay.
It is a historical site, the city of Islamic civilization, Arab art and handicraft, where every monument tells a story. Tripoli has changed little since its foundation in the first millennium BC: it is still a lush garden filled with olive trees, palms, grapevines, and orange groves. The city has a wealth of old and new monuments.
Tripoli includes the Port of Tripoli and the country’s largest commercial and manufacturing centre. It is also the site of the University of Tripoli and institutional and government main buildings.
Tripoli Climate
Tripoli has a hot subtropical semi-arid climate with long, hot and dry summers with relatively wet and mild winters with a Mediterranean (dry-summer) rainfall pattern. Its summers are hot with temperatures that often exceed 38 °C; average July temperatures are between 22 °C and 33 °C. In December, temperatures have reached as low as −5 °C, but the average remains at between 9 °C and 18 °C. The average annual rainfall is less than 400 millimeters, and can be very erratic.
